Obituary of William C. McGrath

“Nobody has it better than me.” William C. McGrath led a life filled with gratitude and could often be heard saying those words. He passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in his favorite chair. William, affectionately known as Bill and Grandpa, was born in Harlem to father Philip McGrath and mother Mary Maloney McGrath. He was in the middle of six siblings and was often hustling to make extra money by shining shoes and loved to play stickball with his brothers. He was in the United States Army for two years stationed in Texas where he was a medic. Upon honorable discharge, he went back to New York City and began working in the elevator business. He met the love of his life Annette Federico McGrath at the Jersey Shore during the Summer of 1968 and were married November 15, 1969. Bill loved talking about Atlantic City, Freehold Racetrack, his business, United Elevator Consultants, politics, and music. He will be dearly missed by his many friends, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Philip, Jerry, and Kenny and sister Maureen. He is survived by his sister Joan as well as his wife, Annette, of more than 50 years, his son Matthew and partner Anita and daughter Michelle, son-in-law Christopher, and five beloved grandchildren Grace Ann, Evelyn, Madeline, Jack, and Vivian. Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 2 to 5 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold on Monday at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the https://stfrancisbreadline.org/
